And a Buoy by Eli Plummer is a staged reading about a father, a son, and a bond buoyed through the changing tides of time. Set entirely on a medium-sized cuddy boat anchored off the coast of Port Clyde, Maine, the story centers on Sean and his son, Aaron, during their annual fishing trips.
With each passing scene, a new year unfolds, chronicling a journey from the early 2000s to the mid-2030s. The audience watches Aaron grow up, and Sean grow older. Aaron transforms from an anxious five-year-old into an adult navigating his own path, while Sean grapples with his legacy as a father.
Exploring the evolving nature of parenthood, the play reveals how their connection holds strong as they navigate what love is supposed to look like—and the quiet ways it shows up. Even as the years shape the two of them on the boat, their relationship remains. This intimate reading is an exploration of family, growth, and the imperfect moments that anchor us.
