CSA Mainstage: The Women who Lit the Way
The Women Who Lit the Way by Omari Abdul-Alim is an immersive interdisciplinary fusion celebrating the legacy of Pittsburgh legends O'Labrice Beckom and Henrietta Freeman. Composed by Omarimhotep, directed by Dominique Briggs, and choreographed by Kontara Morphis, the production brings six Beckom Freeman residency alumni together with selected student performers from the Guardians of Sound Hip Hop Orchestra.
Under Omari Abdul-Alim’s artistic direction, the program weaves violin, voice, spoken word, emceeing, dance, and rhythm section performance into an electric journey through history. More than a standard tribute, it brings together generations of artists to spotlight local talent and celebrate the Black teaching artists who shape Pittsburgh's cultural landscape.
