VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES


Volunteer Ushers

Be an usher and see a show for free! Ushers help with various duties, including taking tickets and assisting patrons in finding their seats. A black and white dress code is required for all volunteer ushers.

Special Event Volunteers


Special Event Volunteers make events at the New Hazlett Theater possible! Special Event volunteers are responsible for a wide variety of duties leading up to and during large events. Special event volunteering is the ideal opportunity for individuals who would like to get involved with the Theater, but have limited time. Most special events take place in the evening and on weekends. Volunteers will be entered on an on-call list and will be notified, well in advance, of each special event and be invited to volunteer. Special Event Volunteers will be provided with free access to the event.

The New Hazlett Theater is a non-profit organization, founded in 2004 with a mission to cultivate the arts and provide a venue for world class and neighborhood cultural events.

Individual internship descriptions:


Marketing/Management Intern


Department/Functional Area: Marketing/Management


Job Description:
Intern will assist with design and execution of the organizations various marketing efforts including research, writing, and design for digital and print distribution.


Supervision:
Supervision is received from the Operations Manager/exercises no supervisory responsibilities.


Requisites:
Candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills; be comfortable with research; have a knowledge of and/or interest in the performing arts; and be able to work under strict deadlines.


Program applications to be used in conjunction with Internship responsibilities:
Beginner-level experience preferred but not required: Mac OS 10.4+, Microsoft Office, Adobe CS3 Design Suite, Pro Tools 7.3.1, Final Cut Pro 5


Key Responsibilities:
Research, develop and maintain the organization’s contact database for public relations, client organizations, and donor supporters.


Research various aspects of the performing arts field for new and ongoing project development.


Receive, format and distribute press releases for various theater events.

Work to develop the organization’s presence in Web 2.0 through the maintenance of online event calendars and media content on websites including YouTube, FaceBook, and other prominent social networking avenues.

Produce monthly theater programming overviews in the Adobe CS3 design platform for digital and print advertising.

Produce audio/visual content within ProTools, and Final Cut Pro for promotional use on the organization’s website.

Theater Technician Intern

Department/Functional Area: Technical Operations

Job Description:
The Theatre Technician Intern will perform a variety of responsible technical duties associated with the set-up, operation, maintenance and teardown of the New Hazlett Theater’s light, sound, rigging and staging equipment; provide technical assistance regarding the use of this equipment; perform related work as required. Ability to lift 25lbs.


Supervision:
Supervision is received from the Technical Director/exercises no supervisory responsibilities.


Requisites:
Some Knowledge Of/Interest in: Theater lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; Knowledge of cable types and uses; Basic carpentry; current audio/visual equipment set-up.


Key Responsibilities:
Operating a variety of lighting, audio, and rigging equipment.


Performing routine maintenance and repair tasks on lighting, audio and rigging.


Adhering to policies and procedures and demonstrating excellent customer relations.


Volunteer Coordinator Intern

Job Description:
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for expanding volunteer staff by contacting volunteer agencies, corporations, and universities and creating linkage programs with targeted organizations. Volunteer Coordinator Intern will be available for theater performances to organize and oversee volunteers. Additionally, the Volunteer Coordinator Intern will be assist with communication, applications, and orientation for new volunteers


Supervision:
Supervision is received from the House Manager/exercises no supervisory responsibilities.


Requisites:
Have a basic knowledge of typing, filing, and office organization. Have ability to pay careful attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:
Maintain excellent customer service skills and attitude.


Organize and maintain organization details and files.


Provide basic information and answer questions clearly.
